My Responsibilities

I will teach your child the language of music. I teach music with this single purpose: so my students will be able to give voice to that which they cannot say and for which they have no words. My studio has a positive and enthusiastic environment. I will tailor the curriculum to match your child’s specific learning needs. If I travel to your location I will arrive on time and will provide you with your full lesson time if I am delayed for any reason.

Student & Family Responsibilities

Students who come to my home agree to arrive at each lesson punctually, well-prepared, and with their assignment books and music. Students whom I travel to will provide unencumbered access their home and are prepared to start the lesson on time. To make good progress, daily quality practice is necessary. I want you to completely understand every assignment. Please ask questions.

If something is happening at home or school that is affecting your child please let me know. Please err on the side of letting me know more so I can be sensitive to the needs of your child. A quick text on the way to lesson can make the difference between a great lesson and a difficult one. (Did Max just find out that he didn't get the part in the play? Give me a heads up. Was Jane hospitalized on your recent trip to Thailand? Let me know!)

All students grade 7 and higher are encouraged to play at their district’s OMEA Solo/Ensemble Contest.

Students are expected to have all the instrument accessories needed to play and care for their instruments (rosin, shoulder rest, cleaning cloth, music stand for home practice)

Commitment

When students enroll, they are reserving their place on my weekly schedule. Try to choose a lesson time in which you feel confident. Please understand that the tuition you pay reserves an exclusive weekly time in my schedule for your child. Unlike a doctor or a hairdresser, I cannot resell that time nor can I create extra teaching time in which to give lessons.

I will do everything I can accommodate an occasional unavoidable change in student's schedules.

Payments

Students paying through TakeLessons.com pay for lessons on their site. Students who pay me directly are expected to pay for the lesson at the time of the lesson. Students paying for multiple lessons are expected to pay at the time of the first lesson. Payments may be made on line, or by cash/check. A charge equivalent to the bank fee will be assessed for any NSF check.

Cancellation Policy

  • Any lesson that I have to cancel will be made up or a credit will be given.
  • If you give 24 hour notice, payment credit or makeup lessons will be provided for students who miss lessons.
  • Students who do not provide notice will be responsible for paying for the lesson. The lesson may be made up at my home, provided a time is available.
  • Students who miss more than two consecutive lessons without notice will be considered inactive and removed from my weekly schedule.

Recitals

Recitals will be held in January and June. Students are encouraged but not required to participate. Students will be able to sign up for a recital as the date draws near.
